Despite the fact that in his work, Voltaire was the successor of the aristocratic genres of poetry, he became the last major representative of the classical tragedy, because he wrote 28 works in this genre - for example, Oedipus, Zaira, Brutus, Magomet, “saved world”. He was able to bring notes of sensuality and romantic picturesqueness in the tragedy, and in addition to ancient figures, rather exotic characters were increasingly found - Chinese, medieval knights, warriors of different eras.
