So I try not to take risks, ”said Nikolai Khrenkov, the Bobslov team in an interview with three years ago.” A traffic accident, which took off the lives of two people, occurred on June 2 approximately in a ms of the Krasnoyarsk-Zheleznogorsk highway.

The second deceased, who, by the will of fate, found himself at the wrong time and in the wrong place did not return to the family.

Nikolai Khrenkov did not immediately become a bobsleist. From childhood, he loved athletics, was engaged in decorates and even made his way to the national team of Russia, but he did not achieve outstanding successes and understood that the limit of his capabilities was already close. It was then that the proposal of the coach Sergei Smirnov arrived in time to try himself dispersing in the Bobsleu.

Nikolai was curious, I wanted to experience new sensations, and he agreed without hesitation. Around the same time, it became known that Sochi would be the capital of the Winter Olympics, and Khrenkov, who had just begun his journey in a big bobsle, probably dreamed of showing up at home games. Fortunately, the athlete had everything for this: heroic addition, remarkable power and outstanding speed.

It remained only to work out the equipment, but this did not take much time. In the year, Khrenkov began to compete at a professional level, and a year later he had debuted in the main national team. The coaching staff of the national team managed to disclose all the merits of Nikolai, and he, having worked for some time with Alexander Kasyanov, was sent to the very baked of sports battles - on the first four to Alexander Zubkov, who fought for the highest places at any international competitions.

In the year, a coordinated quartet in Zubkov, Egorov, Trunenkov and Khrenkov rose several times to the pedestal at the stages of the World Cup. There was one victory-in the American Park City. And at the end of the season, the Russians also became vice-champions of Europe. Disappointment suffered from Khrenkov and his partners only at the World Cup. The quartet continued to successfully perform without Nikolai, and therefore, when he recovered, they did not change the formed team again. Khrenkov went to help his former partner - Alexander Kasyanov. However, the youth pushed, and Nikolai did not always withstand competition. Having won with Alexander one medal at the stage of the World Cup in Wistler, the athlete was forced to decrease in a formally third crew of the country.

In the Olympic season, Nikolai did not always perform, but the reason for this was coaching searches. The headquarters of Pierre Luders, before home games, stubbornly sought the most productive combinations, so Khrenkov worked with Zakov, then with Zakharov, then did not go to one or another stage of the World Cup. However, the final decision of the mentors could not but please Nikolai.

He was given a chance to prove himself at the Olympics, albeit in the nominally third crew. Unfortunately, the performance of the fourth in Zakharov, Khrenkov, Moiseev and Mokrousov in Sochi did not become sensational: the athletes took the place, lagging behind compatriots who became champions for almost two and a half seconds.From such failures, athletes, as a rule, are not easy, but Khrenkov managed to tune in a positive way.

He was preparing to start training and probably already dreamed of Pyeongchang. But in Korea or even at the World Cup in Sochi, the talented Bobsleist is no longer destined to go.
